ABOUT US

Mission Statement

Pittsburgh Gay Days strives to organize the members, families, and friends of the local LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community for entertaining events, thereby providing additional social activities for the entire community during the day before going to the bars/clubs at night. Our purpose is to form events that expose the community to the positive visibility of LGBT persons within the general community of Pittsburgh and also to establish a stronger rapport with local businesses. We set out to raise awareness within the community at large, as well as giving back to the LGBT community. Ultimately, we want everyone to come together, become aware of more resources available to them, and enjoy themselves.

History  [back]

Already, Pittsburgh Gay Days has successfully organized six successive gay dinners at Thai restaurants. Each one has experienced significant growth to the ones prior, sparking the establishment of our organization.

Since then, we have organized upcoming events at Kennywood Park, The Carnegie Science Center, The Pittsburgh Zoo, and The Mattress Factory Museum. We have gained support in getting dates reserved for the LGBT community at the aforementioned establishments. We have received overwhelming feedback and support from the local community, bars, restaurants, clubs, businesses, centers, and the press. We have made huge steps in networking, getting sponsorships, promoting, selling tickets to upcoming events, and getting this website designed.

On July 21st we successfully executed a caving trip to Laurel Caverns which included both 1 and 3 hour tours. The caving trip was loads of fun and pictures from it are in our photos section.

On July 29th we organized a “Gay Drive In” movie night where we went to see The Simpsons and Harry Potter, which was also a very good time.

On August 12th we held a “Gay Pizza Party” at Mineo’s Pizza in Squirrel Hill. We ate pizzas, hoagies, and had ice cream for desert. Some new faces showed up and we sold every Kennywood ticket we had left, which made us reach our goal of tickets sold. We called Kennywood up the next morning and ordered more.

Status  [back]

We have gathered a team, designed a website, established a budget and finances as well as an E-commerce, made posters and flyers, networked within the community, networked with local businesses, gained sponsorships, and planned events up to and including September of this year.
